#ONEMums- It Only Takes One Mum

I felt a bit rubbish this morning after reading a thread on a Facebook group about how no one had got behind the #ONEMums campaign. After reading Clare from Sea Sider In The City post about Michelle from Mummy From The Heart and Jen co-founder of Brit Mums joining 11 American bloggers in Ethiopia, I felt I had to join in.

ONE are not a charity, you will never see them asking you for money, all they want is your voice. ONE is a non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Backed by more than 3 million members, they work with government leaders to support proven, cost-effective solutions to save lives and help build sustainable futures.

So I’m this nifty little widget to this post and side bar so you can help too.

Follow the journey of Michelle and the team with the #ONEMums and #ONEMoms tags on Twitter and Instagram.

Clare has a meme where you take the letters for ONEMums ( ONEMoms) and created phrases or just words that sum up being a mum for her.

So as I was late to the party and I was in need of a shower and was chasing Mouse to get dressed, I got Kip to write for me.He couldn’t think of anything for O and N but the rest are his words.

Over excited

Sportsmanship

So what words can you make from ONEMums that describe you or how you feel as a mum?

Please write a post and join in the meme, retweet and share the #ONEMums hashtag on Twitter and Instagram.

Don’t feel bad, plenty of people were behind the campaign, things got a bit misinterpretted.

Thanks for your support, Mich x

As you know I am not a member of the facebook group, but having looked into one I do not feel as though I can join in. They do want our money, just not directly from us, they want it in the form of more overseas aid and I am not sure that government granted aid is the way forward. How many times do we hear from The Red Cross etc that aid is not getting to the people that need it?

In September 2010, it was reported that the foundation used only 1.2% of their donations for charitable causes, and that the majority went on salaries

So I think that it is great that it is opening up a debate for us all about how we chose to give, support and use our voices, #ONE is not the way forward for me.

Hey Jen, I totally repect your choice but I just wanted to clarify a few points.

ONE is not a charity, they are an NGO and their purpose is to campaign and lobby Govenments to ensure that the aid promised is given and goes to the right places, they want the same as you. None of the aid goes to ONE, their funding comes from a board of Philanthropists and their biggest funder is the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.

As an organisation that campaigns and acts as an advocate for the voiceless then of course the majority of their money goes on salaries, that is how they do their job. They never try to hide this fact, it is something the media got hold of to try and batter Bono back in 2010 as they were making out ONE was a charity when it is not.

Different people support different causes and that is perfect. Last week I saw how aid is working abroad and particulalry in Ethiopia, money goes a long way there as they look after it.

      Thanks, Mich x
