Bury The Bag Monster – Lush Break The Bag Habit Campaign

Me and the kids are a very green and environmentally friendly family so when we saw Lush were supporting  the Break the Bag Habit campaign we thought we’d get involved their Bury the Bag monster competition.Draw a monster and post it on Twitter using the hashtag #burythebagmonster or upload to Instagram using the same hashtag.

So why should be bury the bag monster?

LUSH have shared some important facts about Break the Bag Habit  campaign.

• Plastic bags are rubbish and in the EU we create more than 800,000 tonnes of plastic bag waste each year.

• Use of plastic bags in the UK has gone up this year to over 8 billion single use carrier bags produced.

• These plastic bags will litter our environment for over 2,000 years – polluting our seas, our cities, our countryside and killing our wildlife.

But the good bit…..

In countries where a ban or 5p charge has been introduced plastic bag use has typically dropped over 95%.

Lush support the Break the Bag Habit campaign and ask the Government to implement a 5p charge following the model introduced in Wales.

With this model retailers would be required by law to charge 5p for bags with all profits from the charge going to local environmental charities!

Everyone’s a winner!!

So because my kids wanted to do a bit than a drawing they got together and make their bag monster out of the paper and cardboard destined for our recycling bins.

I have to admit I often found myself forgetting to take the reuseable cloth bags to the shops and coming home with plastic bags now and then.

I have a stash of the cloth ones in the boot of the car now!

Loving your craft skillz I’m afraid Scamp and Ozzy were too scared of the bag monster I made and only drew two eyes – and that was under duress!

I think most of us forget from time to time and I have one to my hand bag and I always have an empty Jute bag when i go into town as I’m inclined to buy something I never planned to get.My kids would of been there all night making their bag monster had I let them.

Love your monster, looks like you had a lot of fun!

Blimey has bag use actually gone up….. and that’s with all the supermarkets bragging about reducing bag use…. so where are all the extra bags being used…. interesting. I’m going to get the kids on to creating a bag monster, great idea. There are a few posts on my blog about rubbish and my hubby has written a song about the great pacific garbage patch – which is what we’re creating with all the plastic we’re chucking out… it’s a falacy that it all ends up in landfill! Loads of it ends up littered over the countryside and sea, killing animals that get in it’s path. I could rant for ever on this one…. and don’t get me started on packaging!

It’s very sad, even with the amount of alternatives to plastic bags.I’m getting the kids to print on some cloth bags to give away as Christmas presents
