How To Shower The Reluctant 3 Year Old

I have been trying to get all my kids to take showers instead of having baths as my water bill last year was super high and I really should practise what I preach when it comes to being green.Kiphas been a doodle as he’s the oldest at 9.The girls have been a lot less of a doddle. The screams from them can be heard from across the street I fear, due to the fact they both hate the idea of having the shower on their faces as they can’t coordinate their hands to wash the shampoo from their eyes.Having a bad back doesn’t help either and I went back to giving them baths. This week I received my water bill and the air turned blue.I have a direct debit set up but the amount due each month made me realise I had to turn things around fast especially as there is a hose water ban being implemented due to lack of rain fall leaving water reservoirs at a all time low.

My mum suggested a shampoo shield which the girls will happily wear but the screams were just as bad.So this morning I told them it’s a shower or I’ll change their names to Stinky McStink 1 and 2.Cat had her shower after Kipand with a little help washed herself and shampooed her hair.So far so good, now for Mouse.Mouse first needed to be coerced even to take her clothes off using her new trainers as a new form of bribery .Once in the shower she wouldn’t  move towards the shower head.So thinking on my feet I decided to use what was at hand and I began throwing the bath toys down towards the shower end.Quick as a flash she sat down and started to play with the toys.

I’m a frickin’ genius!!!

Now I can her body and shampoo her hair whilst she plays with the rubber duckies.

Ah that’s fab. I would love to get mine into the shower too, but the whole bath ritual is just engraved in our psyche at the moment

Bath time is fun when they’re young. The girls tend to fight a lot more now and soak the bathroom floor which isn’t fun for me.

Bless… My son (he’s just over 2 and a half) has just started expressing an interest in showering, so he’s hopped in the shower with my husband a couple of times and always has bath toys in there with him. He seems to love it so far! He does have a bath every night still, but one of us joins him so I don’t feel so bad about using the water. Sometimes the three of us get in!!

The three of them used to have a bath together but Kipis too old to share now and he prefers showers any way now. It’s the time element too that gets a bit of drag with the four of us.Having all of us having showers now is such a time saver.
